The Art of Cars may not be the best book from the Pixar film collection, but it absolutely provides a lot fo great concept art and insight into the creative process that is Pixar Studios. As a professional illustrator, having a library of titles which includes most of the "Art of" books is vital to keeping the mind fresh and clear of rubble. Having a large collection of books such as The Art of Cars allows me to explore the creative minds of hundreds of artists and makes it easier for me to think creatively. I would recommend this book to anyone who works as a professional story teller.

I purchased this originally, because as well as being a fan of the movie, "Cars", I am an up and coming animator and am very interested in all aspects of animation. In the description it told me the book tells of how the original idea was made into a film and the steps and research taken to do so, so I bought it.I am very pleased with this book, it is wonderfully illustrated with production sketches, storyboards, landscape and building drawings and detailed character drawings. I also found the information very interesting too, not too much writing but just enough to keep it informative. It is a sturdy hard back edition so it will last far longer than a soft cover and perfect for a coffee table book. I found out a lot I didn't know about the film and I highly reccommend this book for people who are interested in animation as well as fans of the film!

First I must say that I love Pixar animated movies. With that said, this is a great addition to your possible collection of Pixar art books or a great way to start one. It is filled with artwork used in the movie with awesome, full colored pages of the work in the movie. This completely covers the movie and shows some artwork used to create the final products in the movie and others that were never used. It is a must buy for any fan!

Pixar's most recent animation is fully revealed in this wonderful art book. All the research, ideas, and concepts are printed gorgeously in this book. You see how the ideas are captured on paper to guide the production teams to make one of the best animation in years. Conceptual ideas of characters from the beginning to the final rendered CGI model on screen are all there. The landscape is captured in with colorful pastel paintings. Even all the details from neon signs to the Southwest vegetation are drawn out for you to see. Everything in the book is traditional artwork techniques from pastels, blue pencil, to gray scale markers. Only a few pages have any 3D images for you to see, but in an age where everything is computerized... its really nice to see that old fashioned techniques being used.Its a quality book I highly recommend for the Pixar fan, 3D animation enthusiast, and art students.

I have to say, I love this series of books. Seeing the concept drawings for the movie is wonderful and how they got there inspiration for what eventually became the charming and funny movie CARS.

Really nice--love how it covers the whole world so it can help you pick destinations for future trips! My only criticism is that the US locations are very west coast centric: California, Oregon, with the finger lakes as the token eastern region.

I’ve gotten many travel guides through Amazon Vine over the last several years. Some of them fell well short of being useful or informative in favor of pandering to today’s ADHD readers. I’m slowly realizing that the days of actual travel books, the thick, well-thumbed, dog-eared ones that you toss into your backpack and schlep along with you on your travels, are numbered. When all the information a traveler could need is available with the swipe of a fingertip, who needs books? I accept that, although I don’t have to like it.“Wine Trails,” while not as bad as some of the current crop, is a case in point. I really don’t see much use for it.In covering wine-producing regions in 20 countries, it necessarily scrimps on the breadth and depth of material on any one place. Each of the 52 regions gets about six or eight pages of text and photos containing a short introduction to the region itself and then brief descriptions of a handful of wineries in the region (I wonder what criteria Lonely Planet used to decide which wineries to include). The obligatory “Essential Information” sidebars contain some pointers on lodging, restaurants, activities and local celebrations. Again, this information is so superficial that it is of little possible use to a traveler planning to visit the area.And the maps—don’t get me started on the maps! Someone’s idea of “clever” graphic design was obviously much more important than usefulness of the material; the “maps” in each section are inside templates defined by the outline of a wine bottle. A tiny circular inset of the country with a red dot on it is supposed to provide context. Well, it doesn’t work at all, in my opinion. The maps, which should be a hallmark of a travel guide, are useless.I also question the accuracy of the information in “Wine Trails.” I haven’t traveled to all of the regions covered, of course, but I have been to some of them, and the statement on Page 312 that Seattle-Tacoma is the nearest major airport to Oregon’s Willamette Valley is wrong. Portland would be surprised to learn it doesn’t have a “major” airport.My three-star rating reflects my opinion that “Wine Trails” is not a bad book to flip through to find wine regions that might be interesting to visit, but it’s not very useful for trip planning. For that, I guess it’s back to the Internet.

I enjoyed adding this book to my library of prepping and survival books. The book makes a real connection for circumstances where cash has been rendered useless. The author covers all the major points of an inevitable economical collapse. Its recommendations for bartering are great. It is full of viable options for preparing for this outcome.This book takes you through the whole timeline of a collapse. Starting with the cause of the collapse, to how to cope with money being worthless, and then to what you can do to make it through the collapse. This book is useful for someone who is wanting to put together a plan or at least have an idea so they are not blind sided. Also, useful for someone who is not a beginner at prepping that wants to double check their plans in this particular situation.

It was short yet fully packed book about the economic collapse and some self awareness. It somehow explains the instability of the economy globally. Guess this book just doesn't leave us message about the fluctuation of economic flow, but also serves as an eye opener to us, like the author would like to relay, what if the worth of the money is not sufficient for us. How could a society, nation, country could stabilize even for a short period of time so that we couldn't feel much the deflation or inflation. So we have to be well prepared for what could possibly be happening if we were really struck then. Good thing Jim share lots of techniques and tips for some alternative dos and don'ts. For me, this is a must have book to read, especially nowadays. We may not feel it today, but in the future will sure do.

I am not a prepper. I got this book out of curiosity, to see what the author has to say about any worst-case scenarios. The first chapter offers information that everyone knows. For example, it says, "You need to know that stock markets have a major impact on the economy." Are there any people who do not know that?The second chapter offers some historical examples, which are indeed worth to know. Then, the book goes into surviving strategies. I guess this is the info that preppers are looking for. Overall, it is useful for the peppers, but some info is contradictory. First, the author recommends that you should make yourself very valuable for the company you work for. Two pages later, the author says that you should be self-employed because you cannot rely on employers at the time of crisis.

Jim Jackson's The Death of Money provides a well-written overview of things to consider when (not if) our system collapses.Like most people, I avoid thinking about the possibility of such things happening. However, as the author points out, it iscrucial to be prepared for such an event. The book is short but gave me the motivation to look further into the necessary stepsto take now. I recommend this book to everyone concerned about the uncertain future of our world.

There has been a flood of prepper/survival books flooding the amazon store recently, most deal with either stockpiling food and weapons or training and building survival retreats. This book has however gone a little further, it explains what will happen if our society goes through a total collapse, what will you bargain with, how to buy food and other essentials your family will need. An excellent book about something I hope never happens.

This is more like a pamphlet than a book, therefore not what I was expecting. It could be read in about 20 minutes due to few pages, large print and just basic information that is out there everywhere. If you have not read anything about this subject, it may be helpful, otherwise a waste of money.

I had honestly considered stopping with this story, and not progressing with the series like I have with so many before, but the end of it gripped and made me really reconsider. The unending was written very well to bring you into the second book. But that isn't to say that the rest isn't good, it's simply on a different level. It has cute romance portions in it as well as intense fighting scenes.

Since no1 else bothered i thought i could be the first. Im writing this review from a phone so please excuse my typos.I found the book rather good, and it could work out to be a strong base for the continuation of the series. The workings of the magic in the book are explained but remain still quite blurry for me.Also the main characters are quite likable so i hope the next books will help deepen their imprint and personality.I am also interested to discover how the autor will make magic interact with the technology and mech, and hopefully it won't become too much of a cartoon :)Anyways keep up the good work and keep them coming !

Twins, one boy and one girl, are brought to us by the author in a mix of action packed adventure, magic, other world beings that keeps you reading till you get done.You get to know Milo and Emma as they learn about their world(s) magic, and mystery.If you like coming of age stories and magic, then this is a must read for you!

This is the first book in the series and I could hardly put it down! As soon as I finished the first book, I read the sequel on Kindle Unlimited. The author is brilliant, in my opinion. I actually cried after reading one part of the book. More, please!

Strong characters bound together in a fight not just to survive, but to defeat evil as their goal. A rapid paced story with action, adventure, loss, heartache and most of all, love. I would highly recommend to fans of this genre.

I loved it so much I bought the second as soon as I finished. The world of Astros is unlike any other. I can't wait to see what happens next

This is a phenomenal book. The authors KNOW how to recruit, manage and retain volunteers. Early revelations in the book involve recruiting from the young adult and retiree crowd, strategies for getting volunteers to join your group, and ways of managing volunteers to make sure they don't quit. There are practical items in the book such as a volunteer firing letter, a position description, as well as discussion questions and cases to peruse. I've been working with volunteers for over 20 years and found this book still filled the gaps in my knowledge and altered the way I find, orient, and lead volunteers!

This book is a very easy read that you can knock out in under an hour. In my opinion, there are a few resources/steps that are outdated among the generations I work with. Still, I give this book 5 stars because it's very relevant with the approaches and strategies offered. As you read along the authors direct you to a specific pages related to the subject matter being addressed. I like that. I also love the realistic and practical examples that they use..they're real scenarios. The authors provide a framework (models at the end of the book). that's useful to ministries and organizations in various stages of development.

This book is very useful although I find the references to so many church groups gives a relatively narrow view of the volunteer world however I understand that is the author's most common experience and there is much to be learned from the interactions with people not organisations. If you are struggling to understand this new era of volunteering this book gives some real insights and I would recommend it in a heartbeat to anyone looking for guidance or ideas.

Required text for class. The information was valid and interesting but the presentation style was stupid. I know they were trying to show different perspectives between younger and older volunteer managers but this was ridiculous.

I read this book to prepare for an upcoming interview for a volunteer manager position. It truly opened my mind to what a position like this entails. It is filled with scenarios and solutions to many of the common challenges faced.

This book is a very valuable resource for any organization that has volunteers because it encourages organizations to re-think their assumptions about volunteers, especially how they want to be supervised and made to feel they are an important part of the organization.

One of the best practical youth ministry books I have read in the last 10 years. If you are a rookie or a vet in youth ministry, building a team around you is the most important thing you can do. This book talks about the ins and outs from a youth ministry pro. McKee has authored many fantastic books, but this one has been by far his best.

This is an excellent resource. While some of the ideas are not realistic for my ministry and location, there are lots of tips and ideas that I can implement right away. This is a well-written and engaging resource that will equip you to mobilize and minister to your volunteers regardless of their age.

The paper for this calendar is made of heavy paper stock with a glossy white background.The quality of the color photos is excellent with a wide range of images, ranging from full-body action shots to close-up facial photographs. For example, the photo for the month of March features an orange and white Brittany, while the dog in the second photo is a liver and white colored dog.The height of the calendar for each month is 24 inches. The width of the calendar is 12 inches. The photo is 12 inches high and the bottom half, that includes the month's days and weeks, is also 12 inches high.The first square for each month features a small image of the prior month's dates, and the last square, at the bottom right side for each month, features a small image of the month that follows.

For that's the time when a city truly comes alive.Beautiful reproductions of the flyers and a grab-bag of interesting first-person accounts brings to life this book that documents, through visual storytelling, what New York nightlife was during the late 80's and 90's.In all, it helps paint a picture of what the Big Apple was once like. And though it will never be like that again, to be able to visit it merely by opening up these pages -- that, my friends, is a wonderful thing.

This book is a thoughtful, and necessary collection of flyers (and memories) definitive of the period's music, encapsulating a significant part of the cultural narrative at the time. The 1990's was a boon for many genres of music, particularly hip-hop and house, and there is no better storyteller than the author, Stretch Armstrong. Perusing each page of flyers gives the reader the sensation of entering a time machine and re-living the music, attitudes, and moments of a by-gone, yet important era of nightlife, and contemporary culture. Kudos to the authors for the idea, and saving all those flyers for their significance nearly two decades later.

Living in NYC & being in the music biz I loved seeing the old club flyers. I lost so many over the years so now I have really cool ones in a book.

Excellent book for those who are interested in the subject. Well written.

I was charmed by this book! I think of it as a travel guide, because it is arranged with each county getting its own chapter. But instead of brief descriptions with opening times and directions, it is made up of stories. The stories vary in length and are very readable. The biggest reason to NOT think of this as a travel guide is that it is a lot of fun to read as a history book, even if you’re not going to travel to Wales.There’s a lot more to Wales than visiting the train station with the longest place name in Europe. How about the island where the Romans destroyed the last of the Druids? Or Nanteos, supposed home of the Holy Grail.I learned interesting historical tidbits. Such as, cremation was not legal in Great Britain until 1884, after a Welsh man in Glamorgan County was tried and acquitted for cremating his young son. And there’s the fascinating story of how an illegitimate Welsh Prince may have “discovered” America 200 years before Columbus.Oh, to visit Clyro Court, Radnorshire, where the visiting Arthur Conan Doyle heard about their Baskerville ancestor and his Black Dog of Hergest.The pen & ink drawings, by Mai Osawa, accompanying the text are lovely. There’s at least 2 pictures in each 2-page spread. In the front of the book is a simple map showing the locations of Wales’ 13 counties.This is the second book I’ve read in Winn’s “I Never Knew…” series. The first was on Ireland. There seemed to be more rogues in the Irish stories, but that may not be surprising! I Never Knew That About IrelandHappy Reader

I enjoyed this book about Wales, its counties, towns and lore...I would have liked some maps throughout the chapters to better follow the county locations but all in all a very enjoyable read...I bought his other books on England, Scotland and Ireland

This was so much fun to read and I have been recommending it highly to my London traveler friends. I plan to create maps and do walks, and the only flaw in this book is the lack of maps. Anyone who buys Rick Steves (and I do, a lot) knows that maps and directions can be truly poor things, but we could have used even some written ones. I read it with a copy of my London map book firmly in hand.It is a sheer delight.

I really like the audio book but since I've only been there once it was too detailed. You need to know a lot more than I do about London layout and history. It would have been better in a book format with a lot of maps.

What can I say. I have Welsh heritage and found this book "chock-a-block" full of facts, some of which are a real hoot.

In was good to learn about the land of my grandfather. It would be interesting even if I were not part Welsh.

The silent creep of impending doom is the title Collins chose for the first chapter in this excellent review of how companies go astray. As usual, Collins did an in depth research to discover why companies fail and how that failure is shaped. He determined that there are five stages of decline for an organization:* Stage 1 is characterized by hubris born of success* Stage 2 is marked by undisciplined pursuit of more* Stage 3 is the peak of ascendancy and characterized by denial of risk and peril* Stage 4 begins the precipitous decline with the organization grasping for salvation* Stage 5 is the final capitulation to being irrelevant or accepting deathCollins points out that a company does not have to go through all stages of decline, they can determine when they are in decline and can turn things around with some effort and attention. He also points out that not all companies deserve to survive; it's good that some fail. To make his case on the stages of decline and the results, Collins has provided many examples from companies we might know.What stands out most in this book is how we can see that in our very success lie the seeds of our own demise. It makes Andy Grove's view of "only the paranoid survive" one that makes sense. If we are always concerned and afraid that we won't make it to the next year and that competitors are about to best us and customers abandon us then we are not too likely to become victims of hubris and excess. We can learn from that attitude.As an example of Stage 1, Collins recounts the track Motorola is on from about 1983 through the 1990's explaining that their success in growing the company from $5 Billion to $27 Billion lead to arrogance and neglect. Here he makes the distinction between overreaching and complacency. Collins points out that of the cases he studied only one had a clear cut case of complacency and that was A&P in retail. Because the acquisition of Zayers, Ames destroyed the momentum it had built up over a decade. Meanwhile, WallMart was minding its "p's and q's," relentlessly building its stores across the country. One followed their plan and was content to manage growth, the other was intent on growth for the sake of growth and overreached to the point of failure.Collins provides the following as "markers" for Stage 2:* Unsustainable Quest for Growth, confusing big with great* Undisciplined discontinuous leaps* Declining proportion of right people in key seats* Easy cash erodes cost discipline* Bureaucracy subverts discipline* Problematic succession of power* Personal interests placed above the organizational interestsMotorola makes another appearance in Stage 3. This time it is for making big bets in the face of mounting evidence that you're going in the wrong direction. But Motorola was intent on establishing satellite telephone (recall Iridium?) and disregarded all the signs that they were attacking a market that didn't exist - full on denial of risk and peril. Collins warns "audacious goal stimulate progress, but big bets without empirical validation, or that fly in the face of mounting evidence, can bring companies down, unless they're blessed with unusual luck. And luck is not a reliable strategy."In addition, Collins reviewed the issue with Challenger. "Can you prove that it's safe to launch?" was the traditional guide for a launch decision. However, the frame had inverted to "Can you prove that it's unsafe to launch." If NASA had not made that frame shift, or if the data had been absolutely definitive, Challenger very likely would have remained on the launch pad until later in the day.Collins provides the following as "markers" for Stage 3:* Amplify the positive, discount the negative* Big bets and bold goals without empirical validation* Incurring huge downside risk based on ambiguous data* Erosion of healthy team dynamics* Externalizing blame* Obsessive reorganization* Imperious detachmentAfter a successful run from 1992 through 1998, HP's CEO Lew Platt found himself being described as "struggling, perhaps even failing," as the company ran into the Internet economy. Fiorina joined HP and created a real sense of urgency. They were embarking on a Stage 4 decline where they were grasping for salvation. As a contrast, Collins brings up the Gerstner years at IBM. Gerstner took his time, analyzed what needed to be done, steadily increased profitability and revenues. Fiorina admitted in her book, Tough Choices, "I was in a hurry . . . ." Collins advises that we, "Breathe. Calm yourself. Think. Focus. Aim. Take one shot at a time." He identifies the following as "markers" for Stage 4:* A series of silver bullets* Grasping for a leader-as-savior* Panic and haste* Radical change and "revolution" with fanfare* Hype precedes results* Confusion and cynicism* Chronic restructuring and erosion of financial strengthStage 5 is characterized as being "Capitulation to irrelevance or Death." It's important to remember that a company can be profitable and bankrupt. The case study here is Scott Paper who fell so far behind P&G and Kimberly-Clark that it had little choice but to take on huge debt to reinvest in a series of last-gasp efforts to catch up. The board hired Al Dunlop who slashed 11,000 jobs including more than 70% of upper management.Collins makes it clear that no company they studied was destined to fall all the way through Stage 5. There is hope because companies have figured out that they were headed for disaster and then turned things around. It means a quick culture change, overcoming the panic, the desire for quick fixes, silver bullets and denial of the reality of the situation.This is a must read book for those in leadership and management positions.

The Jim Collins books are well researched academic/scientific approach to answering business questions. His answers are based on a rigorous analysis of real data. The output of the analysis is presented in an easy to consume manor that doesn't require an MBA. Although if you do have an MBA you may be finding yourself asking why didn't they teach me this in school!So don't be a management idiot. If you are starting a business a middle manager of an existing business or leading one of the many name brand businesses covered by the Fortune X Lists you should read these books.If your business happens to be at a high point and everything you touch seems to turn to gold then this is the book you need now. You are likely already sowing the seeds of your economic failure. How the Mighty Fall may help restore the productive paranoia that helped drive your success in the past. Mr. Collins does some great work as an author and material expert regarding the areas of leadership. His work is very interesting and his methodology is adequate regarding leadership. As a pure enjoyment point of view, the book is a good read, as an educational book, I'd use it to either question methods or as a means of debate-defending various points of view for or against his methods and points of view. Then I'd have discussions and work relating to the companies and methods mentioned and areas of improvement, even process improvement suggestions to the materials, companies and leadership used.

Another excellent book from Jim Collins, which explores the five stages of decline and why businesses decline. This book is an essential must read for any business owner and business culture, because it will help people recognize why businesses fail and what can be done to change course and get the business back on track. Collins maps out each stage and provides examples of how each company went into each stage. The appendices provide further insights that are useful for the business owner. As a business coach, I found this book to be very helpful for me in recognizing where my clients are in these stages, as well as what can d to help them turn their business about and make it successful.

As someone who helps individuals and organizations deal with the unproductive aspects of human nature, I really enjoyed this book. I'd say that the book gives good clues and good orientation by the companies diagnosis. I read the book "Good to Great" and this new book "How the mighty fall" which shows the opposite side of the Coin. In order to be the # 1 ranking you take a lot of efforts but to stumble is just of matter of relaxing the way you energized your company to sucess. Be humble is a key point to figure out that the competitor is not static and the customer does not want what you offer but what he wants. The inertia to grow or to stumble is definitely different, being the latter much faster than the first. Keep attendance to Collin's book remarks and be aware with the changing of the world, once it is flat and unsecure.
