I loved the first Harper McClain book so I pre-ordered this book. I love it just as much. Such a great book with good characters that you actually care about. It's a great "who done it" with a little romance thrown in. It also pulls at your emotions. I find myself empathizing with and tearing up over what Harper goes through. Great books!

A Beautiful Corpse is amazing. The thriller story with the police aspect and the reporter aspect mixed together pulled me from the first page making it so I never wanted to stop reading. I love that Harper knew Naomi, that she was on outs with the police, and that she was so persistent in her need to know what happen that she didn’t let any of that slow her down. She took the fact that she knew Naomi to push her to solve the crime. The fact that the cops were blackballing all her inquiries made her stand up for herself and demand fair treatment. Harper went beyond what a reporter should do, pushed where no one else was pushing, and didn’t let the fact that the killer was still out there deter her from following the facts as she learned them.I have not read the first book in this series and while this book is a standalone, I feel like I should go back and read it. There are characters that I’d love to know the history of, relationships that I want to know how they started, and storylines that I feel I would have enjoyed more knowing their backstories.I will be looking for more from Christi Daugherty and her Harper McClain series. The storyline flows perfectly, the characters are strong and realistic, and the mysteries are fun to try to solve.

Thank you to Minotaur Books via Netgalley for my digital copy of this book!I did not realize that A Beautiful Corpse was the second in a series, but I definitely think it works well as a standalone. This is an atmospheric mystery set in the heart of Savannah, Georgia. Harper McClain is a newspaper reporter focusing on the crime beat, and she gets a call one night that body has been found. Naomi Scott worked at a bar with Harper's friend, and it seems clear that her boyfriend killed her. He is claiming to be innocent, and the more Harper researches, the more she believes it was the man who was stalking Naomi. The only problem: he has a rock solid alibi. Harper needs to make sure she gets everything right, because her job is on the line.It was refreshing to read a mystery from the point of view of a journalist instead of a detective. Harper has a great spirit and she is beyond dedicated to her work. The way she jumps into everything she does makes this one of those books you can't stop reading until you are finished. I even had a few moments where I had to cover my mouth in shock! Harper is definitely a woman to be reckoned with, and I am excited to see where her story goes.

This was very good. Great writing, characters, dialogue and plot. It was the second in a series but I didn’t feel lost as I didn’t read the first. That being said there is a cliff hanger that will be covered in the next installment it appears. Normally things like that make me insane but I liked this one and will continue on so I can wait. There is closure on the plot mystery so don’t let that scare you off this one.One small bone to pick before I sign off highly recommending this one... the cell phone records? Really?!? I’m no detective but after seeing an occasional CSI or reading a thriller even I know that cell phone records would be subpoenaed, especially after the victims phone went missing. I understand that a phone was necessary to pull this off but access to any phone especially under the circumstances seems more plausible. I wish that had been handled differently. That’s just one small nitpick of a really great story.Thanks to NetGalley, the author and St. Martin’s Press for a copy in exchange for a review.

Well it was a bit disappointing as it was not exactly as described. I wanted to see more of his notebook pages rather than hear about his exploits.

It pretty tough to go wrong with any of Peter Beard's books but I loved this one as it really gave a bit more insight into how he was able to livesuch a fantastic adventurist life. And of course the photos were just brilliant.

This book opened the door to a family trip to Africa which he had wanted to make years back, but had no idea what to expect. Bread's book provided that background and stimulated the entire family's interest. The book was much more than just a good read. It was a constant companion on their trip this past June and was consulted constantly. The book becfame another member of the family.

Peter Beard has not gotten wiser in his old age. He has given into his vices and chosen the superficial payoffs over any morals. He has found no escape from his aimlessness, no direction from his chaotic meanderings. Where has this man ever really gone? Why has he become so tragic? This book reveals the illusion of greatness, the anticipation of accomplishment. But sadly, decades later, we see how withered and little this man has become. One wonders, was he ever even exceptional? He seemed fearless and passionate. Now, he just seems fatally emphatic and senseless. He is like a machine grinding to a halt.

It is both a fine introduction to the topic and, at least in my opinion, among the best resources available to the serious student of modern art.

It has been approximately 2 years since my conversion. Since my conversion, I have read books written by many respectable people and each book helped me progress spiritually and understand the one true religion. I’ve read from St. Augustine, St. John of the Cross, St. Theresa Avila, Venerable Louis of Granada, and many other great souls.However, everything I have read before seems so small compared to the all the treasures that this book contains. My soul was deeply transformed with every sentence, and I feel extremely privileged and blessed to have been chosen to know more in detail about Our Mother’s life.I feel I have gained a deeper understanding of what our relationship with God is supposed to be, and I urge anyone to read this book. Please pray for my soul and pray for an even deeper conversion.

Mystics -- probably calls to mind some fantasy adventure. In this context, it refers to the Catholic Church "mystics" -- those who have been give the grace of visions and locutions, specifically of and by the Virgin Mary.One bone of contention between Catholics and non-Catholic Christians is Tradition -- the handing down of oral traditions from before the time the Bible was compiled. Also traditions concerning the "hidden life" of Jesus, Mary and Joseph that is not recorded anywhere in the New Testament books.This book deals with one source -- the mystics who have seen and heard from Mary, the Mother of God. She has presented them with the details of her early life prior to and after the Annunciation that she will be the mother of the Savior of Israel.As I read this book, I was amazed at that feeling of peace that pervaded me. I felt so much closer to our Heavenly Mother and grasped so much more clearly what it was like for her to live through events such as the Annunciation all the way through to the Crucifixion of her Son. This book is a blessing to all who will read it.

I have read and reread this book several times, and bought additional copies for friends. While there is little in scripture mentioned of Mary, that is consistent with her utmost humility. However, she herself recognizing the value of her life as an example to the faithful, has not left us without guidance and knowledge of her life. Reading this book will draw you into the life of a woman whose "Yes" again, filled with humility, has changed the course of the world. This book will share some of her most intimate and interior dispositions as she lived her life in total accord with the Father's will. That having been said, it was by no means an easy life, but one that anyone can learn and benefit from. Understanding Mary further helps us to understand, know and love her Son. This book is pure gift!

From before her birth toher assumption into heaven and beyond- you will learn much about the early church.I particularly enjoyed the chapters on the early life of Mary and the Nativity.The book helps to define the roles that the Father, Son and HolySpirit played in her life (and ours). Finally, some information on St. Joseph !The many examples Mary sets for us will help me to live a better life.This book has brought me closer to our Blessed Virgin Mary andour Lord, Jesus Christ.
