Fernholz does a great job at developing a compelling narrative about the brief history of New Space. While a large extent of the book is centered around the "rocket billionaires", a wider perspective on the context in which commercial space has evolved in recent years is also provided. I especially enjoyed learning about how NASA has changed in response to the pioneerism of Musk and Bezos. The author makes no effort to hide his admiration for SpaceX and Blue Origin, which might be reflected in his depiction of their more established competitors. Biased or not, that does not compromise the quality of a well-researched book mostly based on first-hand interviews. Without any doubt, a mandatory reading for anyone interested in New Space that also happens to be entertaining for a broader audience.

Highly readable account of the current business of space exploration. As a (retired) finance professor, I greatly appreciated the fairly detailed financial analysis. As a physics graduate, I wish there had been more about the physics involved in spacecraft development. Whilst I'm happy to allot 5* to this, I do wonder whether the very favourable light shone on SpaceX, compared with its competitors, is because (a) SpaceX genuinely deserve this, or (b) the much greater flow of information and access from that company has had an effect.

Very interesting read. Written so it is fun to read. Lots of information dished up without getting boring.

Good reading. Private money is what's needed.

Great overview/summary of the private space industry

I have been slightly aware of these private space companies like SpaceX for some time, and definitely rooting for them in principle. The mostly successful launch of the Falcon Heavy rocket last month sure grabbed my attention... especially the landing of the two booster rockets, which appeared like something out of science fiction and was the most stunning demonstration of technology I have seen in decades. Of course, putting that car into orbit around the sun will forever be a legendary publicity stunt for both SpaceX and Tesla, but it also put an undeniable spotlight on the fact that it was a private company led by one extraordinary man who accomplished this.Well this book does not cover that most recent event, but it does give the reader a great understanding of both Elon Musk's SpaceX and Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin, plus a lot of historical/political background about NASA, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, United Launch Alliance, and Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic. The book is pretty well written and I found it exciting to read.While NASA has done some very good work in space exploration, I feel that ultimately the future lies in the commercialization of space. I am very glad that these companies are finally getting past the seemingly insurmountable hurdles that previously limited space exploration only to governmental efforts. This book documents what I believe to be a pivotal moment in human history.

I enjoyed Rocket Billionaires: Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and the new space race more for the behind the scenes view of the space industry, both public and private. The book is an easy read, and Tim Fernholz has an engaging style. There is a little bit of science and engineering, as challenges and failures are discussed. Is is essentially a brief history of rocketry in the US, with the occasional anecdote about the personalities involved. I was surprised to discover how quickly the private enterprises were put together, and surpassed hte products offered by the two (now one) megaliths which has always (historically) provided the rockets ordered by both the Government and private industry. Havinmg learned of hte merger in this book, I am especially happy that Musk and Bezos have entered the industry and shaken it up a bit. We have not seen a lot in the way of space exploration in recent years, and I now understand a good deal more about why. Space-X and Blue Horizon may actually do some of that hbefore we see any more from NASA, and if we do see launches from the Federal government, we loiikely have these two men to thank for reinvigorating the industry.I would recommend this book to anyone interested in rocketry, space exploration (and the politics thereof) as well as those who are following these two very interesting men.

So I focused the first 3 hours of my time in the morning, just to do that one thing I needed to do but procrastinated for as long as I remember. The feeling of accomplishment afterward made me feel so good about myself, the rest of my day becomes joyful. Then I did one thing that I feared of rejection. Although I don’t have an answer yet, I am happy that I did it. There are so many gold nuggets and tactics I can implement, I plan to go back to the book again and implement more, especially in the self-discovery part - the purpose of life exercise, and setting goals. I really like the conclusion, “You’re either living an empowered lifestyle governed by intentional action, or you exist to service someone else’s agenda.” Why not build a life by my own design?

I would recommend this book to anyone who works as a professional story teller.

I purchased this originally, because as well as being a fan of the movie, "Cars", I am an up and coming animator and am very interested in all aspects of animation. In the description it told me the book tells of how the original idea was made into a film and the steps and research taken to do so, so I bought it.I am very pleased with this book, it is wonderfully illustrated with production sketches, storyboards, landscape and building drawings and detailed character drawings. I also found the information very interesting too, not too much writing but just enough to keep it informative. It is a sturdy hard back edition so it will last far longer than a soft cover and perfect for a coffee table book. I found out a lot I didn't know about the film and I highly reccommend this book for people who are interested in animation as well as fans of the film!

First I must say that I love Pixar animated movies. With that said, this is a great addition to your possible collection of Pixar art books or a great way to start one. It is filled with artwork used in the movie with awesome, full colored pages of the work in the movie. This completely covers the movie and shows some artwork used to create the final products in the movie and others that were never used. It is a must buy for any fan!

Pixar's most recent animation is fully revealed in this wonderful art book. All the research, ideas, and concepts are printed gorgeously in this book. You see how the ideas are captured on paper to guide the production teams to make one of the best animation in years. Conceptual ideas of characters from the beginning to the final rendered CGI model on screen are all there. The landscape is captured in with colorful pastel paintings. Even all the details from neon signs to the Southwest vegetation are drawn out for you to see. Everything in the book is traditional artwork techniques from pastels, blue pencil, to gray scale markers. Only a few pages have any 3D images for you to see, but in an age where everything is computerized... its really nice to see that old fashioned techniques being used.Its a quality book I highly recommend for the Pixar fan, 3D animation enthusiast, and art students.

I have to say, I love this series of books. Seeing the concept drawings for the movie is wonderful and how they got there inspiration for what eventually became the charming and funny movie CARS.

I’m slowly realizing that the days of actual travel books, the thick, well-thumbed, dog-eared ones that you toss into your backpack and schlep along with you on your travels, are numbered. When all the information a traveler could need is available with the swipe of a fingertip, who needs books? I accept that, although I don’t have to like it.“Wine Trails,” while not as bad as some of the current crop, is a case in point. I really don’t see much use for it.In covering wine-producing regions in 20 countries, it necessarily scrimps on the breadth and depth of material on any one place. Each of the 52 regions gets about six or eight pages of text and photos containing a short introduction to the region itself and then brief descriptions of a handful of wineries in the region (I wonder what criteria Lonely Planet used to decide which wineries to include). The obligatory “Essential Information” sidebars contain some pointers on lodging, restaurants, activities and local celebrations. Again, this information is so superficial that it is of little possible use to a traveler planning to visit the area.And the maps—don’t get me started on the maps! Someone’s idea of “clever” graphic design was obviously much more important than usefulness of the material; the “maps” in each section are inside templates defined by the outline of a wine bottle. A tiny circular inset of the country with a red dot on it is supposed to provide context. Well, it doesn’t work at all, in my opinion. The maps, which should be a hallmark of a travel guide, are useless.I also question the accuracy of the information in “Wine Trails.” I haven’t traveled to all of the regions covered, of course, but I have been to some of them, and the statement on Page 312 that Seattle-Tacoma is the nearest major airport to Oregon’s Willamette Valley is wrong. Portland would be surprised to learn it doesn’t have a “major” airport.My three-star rating reflects my opinion that “Wine Trails” is not a bad book to flip through to find wine regions that might be interesting to visit, but it’s not very useful for trip planning. For that, I guess it’s back to the Internet.

Unless you know nothing about money or investing don't buy this book. It is written fire a sixth grader and it is pretty useless. I feel foolish for buying this. Nothing I didn't already know and anyone who is an adult should know this.

I enjoyed adding this book to my library of prepping and survival books. The book makes a real connection for circumstances where cash has been rendered useless. The author covers all the major points of an inevitable economical collapse. Its recommendations for bartering are great. It is full of viable options for preparing for this outcome.This book takes you through the whole timeline of a collapse. Starting with the cause of the collapse, to how to cope with money being worthless, and then to what you can do to make it through the collapse. This book is useful for someone who is wanting to put together a plan or at least have an idea so they are not blind sided. Also, useful for someone who is not a beginner at prepping that wants to double check their plans in this particular situation.

It was short yet fully packed book about the economic collapse and some self awareness. It somehow explains the instability of the economy globally. Guess this book just doesn't leave us message about the fluctuation of economic flow, but also serves as an eye opener to us, like the author would like to relay, what if the worth of the money is not sufficient for us. How could a society, nation, country could stabilize even for a short period of time so that we couldn't feel much the deflation or inflation. So we have to be well prepared for what could possibly be happening if we were really struck then. Good thing Jim share lots of techniques and tips for some alternative dos and don'ts. For me, this is a must have book to read, especially nowadays. We may not feel it today, but in the future will sure do.

This was a rather fascinating look at what may well happen should society and our monetary systems fall apart. Not that one is anxious for dooms day scenarios, but it does make sense to at least have an idea of what to expect and how you might be able to get through the mess it will make for all of us. This is not about survivalist strategies it is about the collapse of money as our main way of keeping our society going and more about learning how to barter, what skills you'll need and what to stockpile etc. Worth reading if only to be more prepared. There obviously is no guarantee things will keep going along as they are now.

I am not a prepper. I got this book out of curiosity, to see what the author has to say about any worst-case scenarios. The first chapter offers information that everyone knows. For example, it says, "You need to know that stock markets have a major impact on the economy." Are there any people who do not know that?The second chapter offers some historical examples, which are indeed worth to know. Then, the book goes into surviving strategies. I guess this is the info that preppers are looking for. Overall, it is useful for the peppers, but some info is contradictory. First, the author recommends that you should make yourself very valuable for the company you work for. Two pages later, the author says that you should be self-employed because you cannot rely on employers at the time of crisis.

Jim Jackson's The Death of Money provides a well-written overview of things to consider when (not if) our system collapses.Like most people, I avoid thinking about the possibility of such things happening. However, as the author points out, it iscrucial to be prepared for such an event. The book is short but gave me the motivation to look further into the necessary stepsto take now. I recommend this book to everyone concerned about the uncertain future of our world.

There has been a flood of prepper/survival books flooding the amazon store recently, most deal with either stockpiling food and weapons or training and building survival retreats. This book has however gone a little further, it explains what will happen if our society goes through a total collapse, what will you bargain with, how to buy food and other essentials your family will need.
